Anne & Martin Beslay
Canaan Beach is, at its heart, a story of friendship and shared love during retirement of 10 friends.
In 2006, a French couple, Martin and Anne, discovered this untouched stretch of Kerala coastline and acquired land from local fishing folks. Built over three years, Canaan Beach Resort opened in 2009 as a private coastal retreat inspired by slow living and natural beauty.
Soon, nine close friends joined them, each building a cottage within the property. Today, each of the ten cottages is named after its owner — Roux, Gautier, Laroche, Toto, Sanchez, Isnard, Borderies, Brachet, Beslay, and Martin — making Canaan a home shaped by memories, stories, and friendship.
For over sixteen years, these friends have returned every year, escaping the French winter — swimming, playing Pétanque (Boules) and, most of all, celebrating friendship.
Today, Canaan continues to offer that same spirit of quiet luxury, warm hospitality, and a timeless connection to the gentle rhythm of the Sea.
Each cottage at Canaan is named after the friend who built it — and every January, they gather again around one long table by the sea.
Anne & Martin Beslay find this untouched stretch of Kerala coast and purchase four acres from fourteen local fishing families.
After three years of careful, low-impact building, Canaan opens as a private coastal retreat shaped by slow living.
Nine friends joined Anne & Martin Beslay. Each January and February, they return — to swim, to share a table, to play Pétanque.
